A well known player in the Malaysia’s culinary world, Kampachi Restaurant’s family-geared outlet in Pavilion shopping mall is to be enhanced by the design team.

Having designed its high-end Troika branch a year earlier, we were inspired by the raw concrete architecture of Troika’s building and wanted to inject key elements to associate the two restaurants. As such we constructed textured grey panels for the general walls and columns to represent the internal concrete structure of the Norman Foster building. Other elements carried over were the suspended metal and timber shelving and distinct Indonesian Suar timbers. The main facade is clad with a striking Black Forest marble in a antique texture. This unique stone is also carried into the entrance foyer. Angular screens of bronze mirrored steel conceal the front and rear private dining rooms, and dark timber vinyl flooring runs the length of the elevated platform.

A nod to sustainability, we preserved the existing structure of the tea room and converted it into an elevated dining lounge. The timber louvers were given a darker stain and punchy yellow glass dividers were erected on either side of the lounge to welcome the illusion of sunlight.

Styled as a hip and modern Kampachi, we spruced up the space with a myriad of bright and fun colours. Shapes and patterns which were derived from Japanese kimono silks and origami paper, were used to inspire the overall textiles applied in the restaurant’s seating upholstery, artwork and the pièce de résistance, an oversized graphic Barrisol ceiling with dimable mood lighting.

The restaurant showcases a revamped design which cleverly combines the visionary expertise of Blu Water Studio’s innovative style. Kampachi Pavilion is designed to offer a unique sensory experience in its new revitalised interiors.
