The newly revamped and rebranded EQ sits in the heart of the Golden Triangle and is easily identified by its iconic rectilinear 52-storey architecture. The hotel has a total of 440 guest rooms and suites, all luxuriously designed with a strong sense of local identity, encompassing the idea of harmonious Malaysia that local cultures and heritage.
Reimagining a new way to translate heritage into a space, cultural leitmotifs are refashioned to embody a vivid sense of discovery within the walls in the property. Adopting the concept of ‘timeless chic heritage’, the designers use polished rose gold patterns inspired by metallic threads of rich textiles as well as woven motifs patented from traditional baskets. These motifs, essentially inspired by elements of flora and fauna, also represent the beautiful nature of the country. These elements are reflected in feature walls, screens and hand-tufted rugs.
The piece de resistance lies at the grand spiral staircase and the tower lantern. With a magnitude of five storeys, the spiral staircase mimics a twirling thread on the songket loom. Songket-inspired prints are also layered with glass surfaces to create a unique silhouette for the tower lantern. The interplay of opacity and luminosity adds charm and romance to the lobby area, injecting the space with a symphony of harmony and the spirit of place. When one walks into the hotel, its grandeur becomes the spectacle for guests to marvel with every sense.
A neutral colour palette sets a humble tone, representing the country’s friendly and welcoming repute. With an identity rooted in culture, EQ aims to touch the hearts of visiting guests with a space rich in contemporary elements informed by heritage.
Intricate leitmotifs and metallic highlights embellish the interiors — both soft and hard furnishings. Bold geometric patterns inspired by traditional Malay songket are translated into the carpets while feature walls derive from the art of henna. These artistic silhouettes reflect the beauty of diverse Malaysia and are delicately used in a controlled and monolithic way to lend a sense of calmness and continuity to the space.
The overall room is donned in splashes of dark tones, accentuated with sudden pop of ochre yellow and majestic gold. Natural nuances are added to provide balance with quasi-complex prints adding visual impact to the guest room. Clean lines underscore the subtle elegance of the private chamber while drawing the eye to the unparalleled vista of the city skyline.
An open floor plan concept also anchors the space, layering the room with a sense of lofty spaciousness connecting the bathroom and living area seamlessly. The bathrooms comes with both his and her vanity top, decked in opulent marble in dark shades of chocolate and midnight black.
