About This Project

Amari SPICE Penang is juxtaposed against the rich influences of Penang’s history — steeping the design brief with the colourful colonial and oriental nuances of the island. The heritage component is refashioned with a modern sensibility starting with the lofty main concierge. Tall shelving units line across the space, stretching all the way to the Cascade Bar Lounge. The spatial value continues into the all-day dining space on Level 4, drawing inspiration from the courtyards of traditional Peranakan houses. The energy bounces through the louvered windows as the fins add visual interest to the communal space. A sense of vibrancy permeates through the room, seeping into the guest rooms that are further steeped in Peranakan leitmotifs. Inside the one-bedroom, the designers cleverly demarcated the space with the right amount of privacy and openness, swept in oriental nuances. Over at the Executive Lounge, the tone is darker with ashy wood surfaces and gas light inspired pieces akin to a private library in a colonial mansion. Charming yet characterful, the vibrant nuances of the island has definitely shaped the narrative at Amari SPICE Penang where heritage meets design.
