The design for the Melissa Gardens retail was inspired by the flexibility of the material that creates the forms and shapes of the shoes. The interior is set in stark white, and explores the use of paper which is a very versatile material. This finally resulted in ‘peeling’ walls that conjured shelves, with “pinched paper strips” to fashion more shelves.
One can imagine this method is similar to creating architecture origami, only this has a much softer flow. The ceiling feature is an extension of the paper strips manipulation that creates structurally- flowing ribbons which adds texture into the otherwise smooth and stark interior.
